Want to know more about our
solo travel insurance?

These FAQs take a closer look at our benefits, what to look for when traveling independently, and how to select the right plan for your budget. Start exploring the answers below.

Whether it's a sudden change in plans, a lost bag, or a surprise medical need, anything can happen on your trip. And those travel mishaps usually come at a cost, putting your finances (and even yourself) at risk. Travel insurance for solo travelers can help provide the security you want if something goes wrong, so you're never truly alone on your vacation.

Traveling by yourself can be riskier than traveling in a group. Solo travelers can sometimes become targets for petty crime. If your personal items are stolen or you're hurt while traveling, the best travel insurance for solo travelers can be there to support you if something goes wrong ... and give you extra confidence while things are going right.

Our long list of benefits and 25+ years of experience means we can provide coverage for many of the unexpected vacation issues solo travelers may face. The benefits you'll have access to depend on which plan you choose, so it's smart to compare our plans to find which one may offer the best travel insurance for your travels.

Here are some ways our coverage can help with your solo travel plans:

Your trip schedule

Depending on which plan you choose, we can help with trip cancellations, interruptions, and inconveniences, travel delays, and missed connections — to help get you back on track to reach your destination or provide relief for your wallet.

Your health

What if you get hurt or sick in your destination and need to see a doctor or go to a hospital? Many of our plans offer coverage for emergency medical expenses, so you can focus on healing rather than how to afford your medical bills (which can be costly, especially in other countries!). And if you can't receive the medical care you need, we can also provide coverage for a emergency medical evacuation to a more adequate facility or your home.

Plus, while you're going through health challenges, our included 24/7 travel assistance is there for you every step of the way. From helping you find a nearby doctor to arranging your emergency evacuation, our assistance provider has your back, especially when you're traveling alone.

Your belongings

Lost, stolen, damaged, or delayed luggage can happen anywhere. And if you're suddenly traveling solo and without your necessities, our baggage travel insurance can reimburse you for essential items you need to continue your vacation, turning a stressful travel hurdle into a less-frustrating hiccup.

Your trip is unique, and your international solo travel insurance should be, too. All our plans can work well for your solo trip, but when you explore our coverage options, look for the best fit for your vacation and budget.

Our Ultimate plan is our most extensive plan, which makes it our best travel insurance for solo travelers looking for extra coverage. It has more benefits and higher coverage amounts than all our other plans and gives you the option to include up to all nine of our upgrades in your policy depending on your needs. This means you can add coverage for additional medical costs, cancel for any reason,* adventure activities, and more whatever suits your solo trip!

Looking for the next step up from the essentials, but don't quite need our broadest coverage? Our Advantage plan may provide the support you want during your solo adventures.

Want a budget-friendly plan and only need basic coverage for your solo vacation? Our Essential plan combines affordability with broad coverage.

*Cancel for any fortuitous reason for NY residents.

Yes, our policies include 24/7 emergency assistance, which is especially important when you're traveling on your own. If you have a Travelex solo travel insurance policy and need help, urgent or not, you can reach our emergency assistance provider, Zurich Travel Assist, anytime from anywhere. Just call 1-416-977-1803 or tap the assistance button in the Travel On app.

Pre-existing medical conditions can be eligible for coverage on solo trips as long as you meet a few requirements. You'll need to buy our Ultimate plan within 21 days of your first trip payment, insure your full trip cost, insure any additional trip costs within 21 days of paying for them, and be medically able to travel at the time you purchase the plan. If you meet all these requirements, your pre-existing conditions are eligible for coverage.

If you want to talk through your situation before you buy, our award-winning customer service team is here to help.

We have options for long-term solo travelers and those planning adventure activities. Our Ultimate plan offers coverage for trips up to 180 days,* making it a great fit for extended solo travel. If you're planning activities with higher risk, four of our solo travel insurance plans — Ultimate, Advantage, Essential, and Travel Med Go — give you the option to add the adventure activities upgrade.

Many activities are already eligible for coverage without the upgrade, but if you plan to try any of the following, you'll want to add it to your policy:

  • Mountain climbing
  • Bungee jumping
  • Snow skiing
  • Skydiving or parachuting
  • Free falling or cliff diving
  • B.A.S.E. jumping
  • Hang gliding or parasailing
  • Travel on any air-supported device not operated by a scheduled airline or charter
  • Mountaineering or free climbing
  • Scuba diving beyond 75 feet

This upgrade helps make sure you're fully eligible for coverage for the higher-risk activities you're excited to try on your solo trip.

*Trips exceeding 30 days in length may result in additional premium.

No age limit here. Our travel insurance for solo travelers is available to travelers of any age, with no upper age restriction for purchasing a policy.

Our travel insurance for solo travelers doesn't have a one-size-fits-all price. Your cost is based on things like how long you're traveling, where you're headed, your age, and the total trip cost you want to insure. The easiest way to find your exact price is to grab a quick online quote. It only takes a moment and shows you every option available for your trip.
