our travel insurance for the UAE?

Explore frequently asked questions about our UAE travel insurance — from what's included to how our plans can help support you during your trip.

Travel insurance isn't mandatory for U.S. visitors to the UAE, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Still, many travelers choose to purchase coverage, particularly for emergency medical care, since healthcare costs for visitors can be high.

Having UAE travel insurance in place can help you travel with more confidence, especially if plans change or something unexpected comes up.

Traveling in the UAE is generally smooth, but it's still helpful to stay informed. Our Travel On app sends policyholders real-time travel safety alerts based on where you are, keeping you aware of any health notices, security updates, or unexpected changes that could affect your plans.

You can also review the U.S. Department of State's UAE travel information and enroll in STEP (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program) to receive official notifications and stay connected while abroad.

Whether you're basing your trip in the UAE or pairing it with other destinations, our travel insurance services for the UAE can cover your entire itinerary — except for travel to any blocked destinations that carry significant restrictions or safety concerns.

When you start your quote, select the UAE or the country where you'll spend most of your time. For instance, if you'll be in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for most of your trip with short visits to Morocco or Egypt, choose "United Arab Emirates."

It's a good idea to consider it! While tour groups often handle the logistics, they can't protect you from every possible scenario.

Our travel insurance for Dubai and the UAE can help provide coverage if you experience a medical issue, miss part of the itinerary, or encounter unexpected delays during your trip.

Whether you're on a tightly scheduled city tour or moving between multiple stops with a group, having coverage helps you stay prepared for the unexpected.

Activities like guided desert tours, dhow cruises, or easy coastal hikes are typically covered under our base policies, making it simple to enjoy the UAE's more relaxed adventures.

For more extreme experiences — like skydiving in Dubai, paragliding over coastal areas, or scuba diving deeper than 75 feet — you can add our adventure activities upgrade to your Ultimate, Advantage, Essential, or Travel Med Go plan.

You can. If an unexpected event — such as illness or a covered emergency — forces you to cancel your trip to the UAE, our Ultimate, Advantage, and Essential plans include trip cancellation coverage for eligible reasons.

If you're looking for maximum flexibility, our cancel for any reason* upgrade may be a good fit. Offered exclusively with the Ultimate plan, it allows you to cancel your trip for reasons not otherwise covered and receive up to 75% of your insured trip cost, as long as you cancel at least two days before departure.

To be eligible, the upgrade must be purchased within 21 days of your first trip payment, no later than 31 days before departure, and you must insure the full value of your prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs — up to $10,000 per person.

*Cancel for any fortuitous reason in NY. Not available if Israel or the West Bank are destinations on your trip.

Our plans include cruise coverage, so you can explore the Gulf with added confidence. Whether your cruise is delayed leaving Dubai, you miss a port stop in Abu Dhabi, or you need emergency medical assistance while at sea, our plans can help protect you.

You'll need to:

  • Purchase your plan within 21 days of your first trip payment.
  • Insure 100% of your prepaid, nonrefundable expenses.
  • Be medically able to travel when you buy the plan.

If you qualify, the waiver may allow coverage for certain pre-existing conditions, helping you travel to the UAE with more support and reassurance.

No — our Travelex travel insurance must be purchased before you begin your trip. Once you've left home, you're no longer eligible to buy.

However, if you haven't departed yet and need something last-minute, our Travel Med Go plan is a great option. It can be purchased up until the day you leave, as long as you're still at home when you buy it. This plan offers essential medical and emergency benefits for travelers who need quick, reliable coverage before heading to the United Arab Emirates.
